Germany Joins Common Armoured Vehicle System Program

Replacing the Fuchs Transport Armoured Vehicle

The Bundeswehr, the German Armed Forces, is planning to replace its aging Transportpanzer 1 Fuchs armoured personnel carriers. To this end, Germany has officially joined the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program.

The CAVS program is a multinational collaboration between Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and now Germany. The program aims to develop a new generation of armoured vehicles that will be common to all participating countries.

The Fuchs has been in service with the Bundeswehr since 1980. While it has been a reliable and capable vehicle, it is starting to show its age. The Fuchs is also no longer able to meet the evolving threats faced by modern militaries.

The new CAVS vehicle will be designed to be more survivable, mobile, and lethal than the Fuchs. It will also be equipped with the latest in technology, including active protection systems and advanced sensors.

The Bundeswehr plans to acquire a total of 350 CAVS vehicles. The first vehicles are expected to be delivered in 2025.

Conclusion

Germany's decision to join the CAVS program is a significant step forward in the development of a new generation of armoured vehicles. The CAVS vehicle will be a major upgrade for the Bundeswehr and will help to ensure that Germany's armed forces remain one of the most capable in the world.
